I Want To Be A Cricketer Dad!!

This is a story of a child born somewhere in India few years back. When he open his eyes he found himself surrounded with a lot of happy looking faces.

As he grows up and start understanding the world he realised that his dad sometime act weired while watching television. He stop drinking and eating but never stop smoking, hold his head most of the time while screaming and for a change he do clap or dance. His behavior toward him and mom is parallel to his act while watching cricket.Today is the same day when his dad came home early and put on television completely ignored him and his mom. Child went straight to his mom and asked her "Mummy, papa aisa kyun karte hain! (Mom, why dad behave like this?). "Papa se hi puch lo!(Ask your Dad), was the reply with a frustration.

Now is the turn of dad to face the question , "Papa yeh aap iss tarah kyun karte hain khabi khabi" (Dad why you behave like this some times?). Dad turned his head toward him, took him in his arms and again start watching the television. He keep looking at his dad from his arms, waiting for reply. "Beta yeah jaadu hai" (Son this is magic), "Jaadu?"(Magic?) son asked, "Haan" (Yes) was the reply from Dad.

"Yeh cricket ka jaadu hai(This is the magic of Cricket), when this begin our whole nation stop moving, no one move from his seat when our country playing, this make us cry and laugh. No doubt this is the biggest and best magic of all time, we dont care how much working hours our country loose because of this, everyone is more crazy than other".

While giving explanation that match ended, India lost and child's dad become serious. "Cricket Kaun Hai?" child asked again, suddenly some advertisement start displaying over television, father point his finger towards television and said "Wo jo uncle hai na wo jadugar hai cricket ke". Child stop talking and start watching the television where advertisement of a cola company was coming with one of our star cricket player was reapting "xxxx piyu and jito".

When all this was happening mom finished making dinner and called " chodo bhi phir haar gaye, ab khana kha lo" and they went to have their dinner.

Me too feeling hungry now, friends this story is not complete, I will be back with the next part ...........

Show Me The Money

Yea, you read the title correct, after reading many posts of different users and some articles of newspapers, this is the statement Indian players say to all their agents and within team there are groups which can be distributed with the brand names. Mr.Sharad Pawar put more "ghee" in fire by giving the statement to a news channel " some advertisers are influencing the selection" , which raised the storm through our "responsible media".

Two of Indian players (one confirmed name is of Saurav Dada and for second one i am not sure but look like its Yuvraj Singh) have a special clause in their their endorsement contract which encourage them to stay at wicket for more time at any cost (do runouts, take blows, dont make runs but stay). Most of Ex-players and Cricket Board are worried that this kind of clauses can influence the decision of bat or bowl first.

In my opinion India's decision in World Cup to bat first against Bangladesh was because of this only where Greg Chappel was in favour of Bowling.
Yuvraj run himself out in match against Sri Lanka because he was actully trying to run Dravid Out (If you guys dont believe me get that clip and watch it again and again. There was no run in that position where Yuvraj try to steal a single).

If I am right these can be the other contracts:

Dhoni : To drink Milk during the match breaks and to keep his hairs over face while wicket keeping.

Bhajji : To talk over Samsung Phone during breaks and make a gesture of drinking "Royal Stag" after taking wicket (this clause changed in recent time as he is not taking wickets).

Sehvag : to wear a white blazer while batting and fielding (Mayur) not to forget drinking "Boost" during breaks.

Sachin : To make sure bhajji phone got the airtel connection, Dhoni eat "sunfeat" along with milk and moderate all other competitor brands (this mean he need to sit in pavilion as much as possible).

Dravid : Approach all cricket players, force them to open a account with "Bank of Baroda" and buy insurance policy of "MAX".

Yuvraj : To park his "Hero Honda" at point to help him reach balls faster.

Are these not compile with the Indian sentiments (?) Drink Cricket, Talk Cricket, Eat Cricket ......

Who's the Daddy!! - Board or Players

Before starting this post i didnt find any other title and this thought come to my mind reminding me the hollywood movies in which this dialogue is repeated frequently. Yes, who is the Daddy in indian cricket? BCCI or Star Players?

The new players contract revel it all,till Sptember'06 (old contract) the retainer amount was Rs 50 lakh, 35 lakh and 20 lakh for players in Grades A, B and C, respectively other than Players match fees. Current contract say " the players will only be given a signing amount of Rs.5 lakh besides Rs.10 lakh per annum as retainership". Match fees is also cut down to 1.5 lakh and Rs.2.5 lakh for ODI and Test respectively, but they did introducted the bonuses depending on their match and series wins.

Sounds like a demotion? they have tried to cut down the income of players by limiting personal endrosement with corporates at three, where current players have endrosement with more that that limit and some even crosses 10 mark.

All this becuae of cricket teams poor show at cricket world cup 2007 and the above move is forced by the accountaility of cricket players. But how much accontability our cricket board holds for Cricket world cup poor show? they still earning Rs.Rs.4,300,520,583 (43 hundred crores approx.) and this will increase in future.

There Cricket Board shown them that they are the Daddy of this show!! and Players will again start crying in front of Cricket Board for more match fees and endrosement deals. In the past also Players tried to take a upper hand by forming a players associaton but I have not heard about them from quite a long time ....anyway I used to do for pocket money and expect them to take some steps like that ...ha ha ha......

Retirement and me?

I am not sure if all of you know that how much our Sachin "10'Dulkar" (these days this name fits him) earn yearly? His estimated income through advertisements for next 4 years is Rs.140 crores ($31 million),till date he has earned estimated Rs.200 crores ($45 million), Rs.185 crores through endrosements and corporate advertisements. As a player fees he earned only Rs.15 crores.

His current endrosements are Pepsi, Canon, Sunfeast, Boost, Adidas, Reynolds, ESPN-Star, Sanyo, MRF, Visa, National Egg Coordination Committee.

Rs.50 lakhs a year is what he earn today as a part of Indian Cricket Board Contract and a part from this Rs.1.6 lakh and Rs.2.6 laksh for every One Day Internationa and Test Match respectively.

Thats a big money for a cricket players and thought last couple of years is not good for him as a cricket player he still earning.So brother why to care about the form and sentiments of Indian Cricket Fans? afterall money matter most and he is still a good player if not "Guru"of Cricket.

Lets earn and let him earn Mr.Sharad Pawar and Mr.Vengsarkar!!

Droped or Rested - Sachin and Ganguly

Few of big guns are not in team for Bangaladesh cricket tour like Sachin Tendulkar and Ganguly. Our chief Cricket Selector Mr.Vengsarkar told reporters that "I had talked with them and only after they agree we Rested them".

Ha ha ha .... Is that mean that team was selected after consulting the "Seniors" of Indian Cricket. Come on Mr.Selector, be brave say "Yes we dropped them because of their performance".

On this issue our Kapil Dev shared his toughts to a TV channel "yes they are droped not rested", and he is experience enough to say that. Then why cant our selectors say the straight statement. Are they too under the "Dadagiri" of Senior Cricket players?

Still confused but do Cricket Players over Cricket in India? many events in past and present cement this.

Once again all the best to our Cricket Team for upcoming Bangaladesh Tour ( huh... we need wishes to win, even in Bangladesh)

Atleast now cricket board is thinks that there are other areas too in cricket then Batting. Plan is good and with their experience they can help India to come better in Bowling and Fielding.

Vankatesh Prasad, a good line and length bowler who use his mind more than his height (ha ha...), i still remember his slower bowl to Andrew Hudson, South Africa who look like a break dancer before getting caught. He had a good partnership with Srinath for couple of years. Definelty know about bowling.

Robin Singh, played Under 19 cricket in West Indies(Trinidad), came back to India and played for Tamil Nadu before representing Indian Cricket Team in ODI against West Indies in 1989. He didnt played any other International match before his second coming at the age of 33. He was master of quick single, and a poweful hitter with his useful slow military medium bowling. But no doubt he was the best fielder in our Cricket team for the period he played.

Last time when Indian Cricket board selected a coach for Indian team there was a whole bunch of shortlisted cricket coaches to choose from, what happened this time (for Bowling and Fielding Coach). Wasn't there any other options might be better ones?

From where we will get "Fast Bowlers" Debate Continue!

Watching Malinga and Shaune Tett bowling in Cricket World Cup 2007 again forced me to think that "when and where we will find fast bowlers in India".

We have MRF pace academy in India from last 20 years and many of fast bowlers who are representing different cricket countries were here to sharp their skills as a fast bowler. Unfortunately, we get only few from their and Srinath is one of them but he too never threw that cricket ball with over 145 Kmh speed.

I have identified these two things to be a fast bowler (my openion)

Physique - No one can argue that you need a certain kind physical shape to be successful fast bowler; big broad shoulders, long legs and long arms make the art of fast bowling much easier
Aggression - Become aggressive and put an intimidating picture in the field.

To get these two quality we need to look beyond cricket boundries of our metro and other A class towns. We will sure not find that kind of bowlers in city cricket neither we have ever got them from there (other than one or two cricket fast bowler).

Any other openion?

Whatmore, Moody or Indian Coach for India?

Now that hunt is on for next indian coach its becoming bigger than any Indian blockbuster movie. Every news channel and newspaper is writing about this. Everyone is judging them of their performance with other countries.

But I have my doubts on both Whatmore and Moody. Watmore a low profile cricket player in his playing days took charge of Sri Lanka and they lift the World Cup. Now with Bangladesh and they beat India and NZ, but is that because of Whatmore?

Moody coaches couple of english cricket side and one Australian domestic state now with Sri Lanka who are close to lift the cup again. But is that because of Moody?

Few more questions:

1. Can we give all credits to these coaches?
2. Can Whatmore and Moody handle the high profile Indian Cricketers?
3. Do they really want to help India improve their performance?
4. Or they want to coach Indian Cricket becuase of huge Coaching Fees?

Old Man Stop Playing!!

Amay Khurasiya, who played 12 One Day International cricket matches between 1999 and 2001, on Sunday announced his retirement from first class cricket.

Finally he call it a day, but there are still a lot of old players who are playing in different Ranji cricket teams and dont want to give up.

Do you think Indian Cricket Board should make rules (i.e Players older than 32 cannot represent a Ranji Team)to make sure youngsters play more on domestic level?

Can it help us to search for new talent in India?

Thats for sure that only cricket young guns are the one who play with a goal to represent India at International Level.

Thinking - Our Bowling and Fielding

I am just back from my work and watching the 2nd semi final of 2007 ICC world cup. Australia is in very good position and dont think they will loose from here. Watching their bowlder bowl cant stop myself by thinking that Can indian bowlers do what they do with their line and length?

Neither we had any fast bowler in past nor in current team and chances are too thin of coming in near futhere. Why is that we cant produce fast bowlers like brett Lee or Akhtar? Where we lack? Physical Strength? Mind Set?

If we talk about fielding we have only one good fielder in our team all the time past and present. how to make our fielders to touch the international standards?

Is there anyone who can tell me?????

If we look at his career stats, they dont stand with the best. Still the thing is that he is the man who started his career as a left arm spinner and stablished himself as a front line Batsman which is what we are looking at our current cricket players. We all know that he played like a champion and his royal look makes so many cricketers a little jealous :)

For over a decade, Ravi Shastri rendered yeoman service to Indian cricket in many ways. As an obdurate opening or middle-order batsman; as a left-arm spinner who was an integral part of the attack; and as long-time deputy to a couple of captains. In his time he was very much the glamour boy of Indian cricket, tall and good-looking and with an image to match. He had his detractors who charged that he batted too slowly, that he was selfish in his approach, that he continued to be in the team only because Gavaskar was captain. But the phlegmatic Shastri took all this in his stride, letting his performances on the field speak for themselves. In reality, as Shastri himself admitted, he was not particularly talented but had come up only through hard work.
Shastri might not have cut a dashing figure on the field as he pushed and prodded and grafted his way for runs and his bowling was little more than defensive as he pegged away on a good length without much variation. Of batsman who have played ten Test innings against Australia, only Eddie Paynter averages more than Shastri's 77.75. He was like Navjot Sidhu in reverse: he started off as a lower-order hitter, but ended up as the original stonewaller at the top of the order.

But no one could deny his immense value to the side, his commitment to the team's cause and his consistency had to be admired. He very rarely let the country down and was an excellent utility cricketer in the one-day game, good enough to win the coveted Champions of Champions title - and the Audi car that went with it - in the World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985. Despite his image as a cricketer with a defensive outlook, Shastri could really have a go at the bowling - as he did while equalling Gary Sobers' world record of six sixes in an over in a Ranji Trophy game in January 1985. A deep thinker and a shrewd strategist, he led India to victory in the one Test he captained - against West Indies at Madras in 1987-88.
Amiable and distinguished, Shastri - who played his last Test aged just 30 - is now a popular and erudite TV commentator.

For Indian fans, India's elimination from the cricket World Cup so early in the competition is a crushing disappointment.

For the television channels that bought rights to beam the tournament to these fans, Friday's defeat was a financial disaster.

But for the tournament itself, nothing could have been more tonic than the purging of Pakistan and India, the dysfunctional giants of South Asian cricket.

Instead of these glowering bruisers, the extravagantly gifted Sri Lankans and the plucky Bangladeshis will represent South Asia in the next round, the Super 8.

Since the Reliance World Cup hosted by India in 1987, South Asia's cricketing nations have become more and more influential in the conduct and administration of the one-day game. The elimination of India and Pakistan leaves the World Cup in the West Indies a happier, less toxic tournament

Some of this influence has to do with cricketing success: since India won the Cup in 1983, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have won it in 1992 and 1996 respectively.

Mainly, though, the balance of power in world cricket has shifted from England and Australia towards the sub-continent for commercial reasons: the dawning realisation that India owns the only mass audience there is for the game.

One-day allure

Cricket was always popular in India, but the coincidence of World Cup success in 1983 and the creation of a national television audience in the early 1980s (Doordarshan, India's sole, government-owned television station at the time, created a pan-Indian network in 1982) expanded and deepened the fan base of the game.

Crucially, this new audience was exclusively drawn to one-day cricket, the shorter form of the game.

Pakistan's elimination from the World Cup also drew angry protests

There were several reasons for this. Limited overs matches were over in a day, they were never inconclusive and they had a gladiatorial quality that Test cricket with its longueurs, wholly lacked.

The arena-like excitement of ODIs was tailor-made for that great South Asian sport, chauvinism.

India and Pakistan had resumed cricket relations after a long chill in 1978, just as limited-overs cricket was starting to take off.

The compulsive need to confront the old enemy led to the creation of a cricket circus in the Gulf sheikhdom, Sharjah, where, on neutral ground, the sub-continent's blood feuds were re-played as one-day tournaments for the benefit of increasingly feverish and volatile audiences.

The fusion of chauvinism and television had two bad consequences: an obsessive fan base that tended to become deranged by defeat and the rise of contemporary cricket's stock villain, the corrupting bookie.

Defeat, especially at the hands of the old enemy, led to a) a suspension of cricketing relations (India stopped playing Pakistan in Sharjah after a sequence of defeats led to allegations of foul play) and b) to attacks on players or their property (Mohammad Kaif's home was attacked in 2003, and Mahendra Dhoni's house was damaged after India was defeated by Bangladesh in their opening match in the present tournament).

Corruption

The rise of the bookie and the phenomenon of match-fixing which nearly destroyed cricket's credibility as a competitive sport, was a by-product of the new South Asian audience for one-day cricket.

It couldn't have happened in an environment where the Test match was the dominant form.

Test cricket is harder to fix. It happens over a longer span, there are more innings, more variables and it never generates the steaming pressure-cooked excitement that leads to frenzied betting in the course of an ODI.

Test cricket's suspense is cumulative, and its metabolic rate too low for villains.

And these bookies, these villains are South Asian - located in India and Pakistan for the most part, countries where the criminalisation of betting has driven the betting 'industry' underground.

The corruption that bookies have brought to the game has had foreign recruits like the late South African captain, Hansie Cronje, but it remains a sub-continental blight.

Already Bob Woolmer's tragic death is being speculatively attributed to bookmakers worried that the Pakistani coach was about to blow the whistle on their racket in his forthcoming book.

Cricket will buckle under the weight of the sullen, thin-skinned nationalism that Indian and Pakistani fans bring to the game and it can certainly do without the bookie-driven corruption that feeds off this perverse enthusiasm.

The elimination of India and Pakistan leaves the World Cup in the West Indies a happier, less toxic tournament; it might even give the fans of these countries the time to actually play some cricket.

Or they could use the break to switch their loyalties to a sport that doesn't bring out the worst in them. Test cricket, anyone?

Tendulkar and Ganguly rested for Bangladesh one-dayers

Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have been rested from India's one-day squad to Bangladesh while Virender Sehwag hasn't found a place in the Test squad. In a two-hour selection meeting at the Cricket Centre offices of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the national selection committee found place for two new faces in Manoj Tiwary (ODIs) and Rajesh Pawar (Tests) while Dinesh Mongia, RP Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Piyush Chawla earned recalls.
Dilip Vengsarkar, the chairman of selectors, said Tendulkar and Ganguly had been "rested" given the hectic schedule ahead for India, who play approximately 45 ODIs in the coming year. Vengsarkar also clarified that Harbhajan Singh, Ajit Agarkar and Irfan Pathan, who did not find places in either squad, had been "dropped."
Interestingly, no vice-captain was named for either squad, and it was announced that it would be up to the tour management committee, comprising captain, cricket manager and coaches, to nominate a vice-captain as and when the need arose. It's understood that Yuvraj Singh would have been a shoo-in for the job but, in the light of his recent slap on the wrists from the board for comments made in the media, and the fact that he is not always a certainty for the Test eleven, it was thought best not to name him vice-captain. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's name also came up for discussion for the job but, in the end, the selectors decided it was best left to the team management.
In another crucial move there was no place for Virender Sehwag in the Test side and, despite certain selectors wanting Gautam Gambhir in his place, it was decided that this would not be the best long-term solution. Therefore Dinesh Karthik will open for the two-Test series against Bangladesh along with Wasim Jaffer. Karthik opened the batting in the last Test India played, making a half-century and sharing a 150-plus partnership with Jaffer. Karthik filling the role in the short term could well mean that Sehwag could make his way back into the Test side for the England tour.
Rajesh Pawar, the 27-year-old left-arm spinner from Baroda, was the only new face in the Test squad while Ramesh Powar and VRV Singh made a return. Pawar has had a good domestic season for Baroda after moving from Mumbai, picking up 36 wickets at under 25 apiece.
The selectors also decided that five extra bowlers would attend the camp in Kolkata. Pankaj Singh, Vijaykumar Yomahesh, Ishant Sharma, Ranadeb Bose, all mediumpacers, and Pragyan Ojha, the young Hyderabad left-arm spinner, will train with the Indian team, although they will not be in contention for places on the Bangladesh tour.

I still dont know when the first one was made by our team, is that we didnt pick the youngsters or our current cricketers are playing for money only?

Here is what I think would have better choises:

V Sehvag - R Uttapah
S Ganguly - G Gambhir
A Agarkar - Ishant Sharma
H Singh - R Pawar

I might be wrong but we might be in better position if we picked the second choises for the cup.

Anyone think otherwise?

Hi guys!!

I have created this blog today beucase I cried last night thinking of India out of Cricket world cup. How the hell that happened to our team, to whom we follws day and night at office at home and with friends.

I still dont understand were our team went wrong in 2007 world cup? Are we going downwards? What does all the big names doing in currnet side?

Though my heart is totally broken i still thinking of semifinal line of world cup. What you think about this guys!!
